Monica Goel Presents Probate Skills Seminar

MONICA GOEL, an attorney in Tredway, Lumsdaine and Doyle's Downey office, is presenting three seminars in Los Angeles (December 8, 2008), Pasadena (December 9, 2008) and Irvine (December 10, 2008), on the topic of Refining Probate Skills, Streamlining Processes and Overcoming Obstacles.

Ms. Goel is a top attorney in the area of trusts, trust litigation and probate planning and litigation. 

The seminar is designed for professionals who specialize in estate planning and administration.  It will provide the latest in legislation and practical tips for handling probate. Attorneys and paralegals in the area are encouraged to attend.

Tredway, Lumsdaine & Doyle will be conducting Law Day Seminars on important legal issues and topics on September 18, 2008.  In addition, the firm will be holding an open house and mixer on that same day.

The seminars will be at the firm's new Long Beach office, which offers clients and friends better parking and easier freeway access.

Attorney Monica Goel Installed as President of Soroptimist International of Downey

Congratulations to our very own Monica Goel for being installed as the next President of the Soroptimist International of Downey for the upcoming year. Past president Dianne Lumsdaine hosted the event at her lovely home where members of the Downey community celebrated by dressing in traditional festive Indian attire and feasting on delicious Indian food.  Soroptimist International of Downey provides an enriching environment that allows lasting friendships to form while making both the local community and the world a better place through the service that is provided. The name, Soroptimist, means best for women. The organization's mission statement, "Soroptimist help women and children, and help to make the community a better place to live" reflects one of the foundational aspirations of the people at Tredway, Lumsdaine & Doyle.

Ms. Goel also spoke at an NBI seminar on Friday on Estate Administration Practice in Irvine, CA.  She has extensive experience in Estate Planning and Administration.

TLD Managing Partner Recognized for Leadership

Matthew L. Kinley, Managing partner at TLD was recognized for his leadership and outstanding efforts as Chairman of the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce for 2007-2008 at its recent Inaugural Gala.

ROY JIMENEZ SECURES BANKRUPTCY VICTORY

Partner Roy Jimenez secured a victory for judgment lien holders in Federal Bankruptcy Court on May 28, 2008. Our client held a judgment of approximately $600,000, secured against the debtor's real property. The debtor filed a motion to avoid the lien by under-valuing his residence. The Court denied the motion after Mr. Jimenez presented evidence and argument that the residence had been undervalued, thereby holding most of the judgment intact.

Tredway, Lumsdaine and Doyle Welcomes Four Baby Members to its Family

TLD is very happy to announce the heartfelt arrival of four new babies into the firm family this year. 

Shannon Jenkins, a partner at TLD, is the first time mother of twins, a boy and girl.  She welcomed Jessica Marie and Grady Simeral into this world in late February and has been enjoying motherhood ever since. 

This was followed by the birth of Veronica Cobian's second daughter Vianey Citlali  just a couple weeks ago.  At 6 lbs and 11oz she is a bundle of joy. 

And, most recently, associate Jennifer Sawday also added a second daughter to her family with Hailey. 

It's an exciting time for all of us as we congratulate their families and look forward to meeting them all during upcoming company wide events.      

ATTORNEYS SECURE A MOTION FOR SUMMARY JUDGMENT

TLD partner Roy Jimenez and associate Pamela Tahim successfully secured a Motion for Summary Judgment on all causes of action that was affirmed by the Fourth District Court of Appeal in favor of an employer in a wrongful termination lawsuit.  The employee alleged damages for wrongful termination on the basis of age discrimination, disability discrimination, and failure to accommodate.   When the employee lost on the Motion for Summary Judgment last year, he appealed the decision with the hope he could force a settlement.  He not only lost the appeal, the Court of Appeal awarded the employer the costs associated with the appeal.

South Asian Bar Association of Southern California Public Interest Foundation Holds 5th Annual Banquet at Union Station

The South Asian Bar Association (SABA) of Southern California Public Interest Foundation held its Fifth Annual Public Interest Foundation Banquet on April 24, 2008 at historic Union Station.  The banquet, which is the non-profit organization’s primary fund raising event, drew approximately 300 influential members of the Southern California legal community, business community, local state and federal judges, and elected officials.  Tredway, Lumsdaine & Doyle attorney Pamela Tahim is the Vice-President of the SABA Foundation and has been elected to be President for the 2008-2009 term.  The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting public interest projects which assist the South Asian communities in Southern California.  The Foundation provides grants to grassroots organizations that provide critical legal and social services to South Asian communities and fellowships to law students who wish to devote their careers to public service.

CONGRATULATIONS TO BAL-SEAL ENGINEERING, INC.

One of TLD's clients, Bal-Seal Engineering, Inc. celebrated their 50th anniversary in business on Tuesday, May 13th, 2008.  Bal-Seal Engineering is led by Pete Balsells, pictured opposite with partner Mark Doyle, next to a picture presented to Pete by the employees. The celebration started with a walk down memory lane as to how the business has grown over the last fifty years. The employees were then treated to a day of fun including rides, games, a barbecue and raffle prizes.
